Is your stuffed animal collection taking up too much space on your bed? Have you lost a significant amount of floor space to accommodate for them? Well, there are ways to you can have your plushy friends on display without having them take up a large amount of space in your room.
In this article, I’m going to go through some of the ways in which you can store and display your stuffed animals on the walls. This way you can still decorate your room with them, but they will be out of the way, and you won’t have to sacrifice as much space. This can be especially useful if you have small living quarters.
Are These Your Stuffed Animals, or Your Children’s?
Here at Collector’s Headquarters, we don’t judge you for what you choose to collect. If this is your own personal collection of stuffed animals, that’s awesome! Any storage/display method listed in this post is going to be appropriate for you. Now, if this is your child’s stuffed animal collection, keep in mind that some methods of display are going to be better for children than others. For example, if you’re mounting shelve on your walls, consider the fact that your child may not be able to reach them if you mount the selves to high—if you mount the shelves very high, your child could potentially get hurt trying to access them. These are things to keep in mind before choosing a display method.
Ways to Display Stuffed Animals on the Walls
1. Mounted Shelves
Mounted shelves are a great and common way to display just about any type of collectable on your walls, including stuffed animals. The really nice thing about plush/stuffed toys is that they’re not very heavy, so whatever shelves you buy will probably not need to hold a ton of weight.
People seem to like to mount the shelves high on their walls slightly below the ceiling. Just make sure you give yourself enough space, so the stuffed animals are not touching the ceiling.
Remember, whenever you are shopping for mountable shelves, you want to make sure the dimensions of the shelves meet your needs before making the purchase.
2. Small Floating Stands
Maybe you’re not interested in displaying your stuffed animals in a bunched group. Maybe you want to spread them out—an individual here and there, small groups spread out here and there. In this case, floating stands might be good for you. You can arrange them about your walls however you like.
3. Mountable Display Case or Cabinet
If you want to protect your displayed stuffed animals from dust, then a display case or cabinet might be ideal, though more expensive than some of the other options.
4. Peg Board
The cool thing about a peg board is that it seriously reduces the number of holes you’ll be putting in your walls. The peg board allows you to arrange shelves and stands all over the board in whatever arrangement you like.
5. Repurposing a Hanging Shoe Organizer
So, there a number of different types of shoe organizers. Regardless of the type, shoe organizers can be repurposed and used to display your stuffed animals.
Before you purchase a shoe organizer to display your stuffed animals in, make sure you understand how the shoe organizer you are purchasing will be hung. Some are designed to be hung from rods (such as a closet rod) and are equipped with hooks for this purchase, some are meant to be hung over the door, and some can be mounted on the walls.
6. Hammocks
Another really creative and fun way to display and store your stuffed animals is by using a hammock and hanging it in a corner in your room. There are hammocks that are made specifically for holding your stuffed animals. Hanging these types of hammocks in the corner of a room close to the ceiling seems to be a popular decorative style.
7. Hanging Baskets
Hanging baskets can be a very cute way of displaying your stuffed animals. You probably won’t be able to display larger stuffed animals this way, but smaller ones should not be a problem. You could even mix medium and small-sized stuffed animals together in a hanging woven basket.
8. Curtain Rod
Curtain rods can be used as a makeshift shelf for your stuffed animals, but they can also be used to support your hanging baskets or your hanging shoe organizers.
How Should You Display Your Stuffed Animals?
We’ve discussed the tools you might need to display your stuffed animals, but what is the best way to display them from an organizational perspective? Really, this is up to you, but you should consider which stuffed animals need to be accessible. If you have a small child, and you have stuffed animals on display in multiple places in your child’s room, you want your child’s favorites to be easy to access. If the stuffed animals are being stored in a shoe organizer hanging from your child’s bedroom door, then his/her favorite should be near the bottom of the shoe organizer, with the ones that they don’t use very much being higher.
When it comes to organizing them from an aesthetic standpoint, again, it’s up to you. Here are some ideas for how to arrange them based on categories:
- Brand
- Size
- Color
- Type of Animal
- Franchise
- Texture
How to Stop Sunlight and other Environmental Factors from Damaging Your Stuffed Animals
So, where should you display your stuffed animals, and how do you keep them safe? When displaying stuffed animals, like with any collectible, you need to consider environmental factors. Sunlight is damaging to most toys and collectables. Sunlight causes colors to fade over time. Another thing you should consider is humidity. Exposure to too much humidity over longer periods of time could cause your stuff animals to grow mold.
So, you should display them in a room where the temperature and humidity levels can be regulated. Also, try to display them on a wall that doesn’t get direct sunlight at any point during the day.
Conclusion
Every type of collection deserves an awesome display. Stuffed animals are no different. There are many options to consider when displaying your stuffed animals on the walls, and, really, you must find the option that is best for you. Of course, always consider environmental factors when choosing where you will display your stuffed animals so that they live long happy lives. Most importantly, have fun when displaying your stuffed animals, cause the point of any collection is the joy that it gives us.
