Funko Pops can make for great decorations for your room or home office. You can put them on display shelves, on your walls, or simply stack unopened Funko Pops against the wall and see how high you can get them to stand. What about inside your PC case, though? Maybe you have built your gaming PC with a certain theme in mind—Star Wars, Overwatch, Transformers, etc. Why not set a relevant Funko Pop inside there?

You can go to Google Images right now and find numerous pictures of Funko Pops sitting inside PC cases. That being said, there are many people who put Funko Pops inside their PC cases just to get that picture for social media; and the Funko Pop is removed once the picture is taken. This is not always the case, but it definitely is sometimes, so just keep that in mind.

Will Temperature Inside of Your PC Get Too Hot for the Pop?

Okay, so the big thing we’re concerned about here is whether or not things are going to get too hot for the Funko Pop inside the PC. Will you ruin your Funko Pop, or, even worse, could you end up ruining your PC if the Funko Pop melts?

First off, if the temperature inside your PC case is getting high enough to melt the PVC plastic the Funko Pop is made of, then you should be much more concerned about your PCs components than the Funko Pop. It’s difficult to say at what temperature your Funko Pops could possibly melt or crumble from extreme temperatures, but it likely won’t happen until around 300°F (148°C) or more. That being said, its possible that your Funko Pop will start to soften or warp at much lower temperatures.

You will need to determine how hot things get inside your PC during heavy usage. Also, how long/frequently is your PC under that kind of stress?

Could the Funko Pop Ruin Your PC?

Obviously the first thing everyone is concerned about when it comes to putting any type of figure or figurine in their PC is that figure (Funko Pop in this case) melting and ruining components of their PC. As I’ve discussed, it’s unlikely the ambient temperature inside the PC case will be high enough to melt the Funko Pop, however, you should consider the effects of adding something else to the enclosure. The Funko Pop is just one more thing inside the case that is going to accumulate heat and raise the overall temperature. You also want to consider the fact that the Funko Pops inside your case may inhibit air circulation to some degree which can also raise the ambient temperature. So, just be careful about where you put the Funk Pop in there so that you don’t hinder air flow in any way.

Different People, Different Results

Okay, so the fact of the matter is, if you go researching this on Reddit or various message boards, you will find some people claim that they have left a Pop sitting on the dashboard of their truck in the scorching heat of the Texas summer, and it has had no effect on their figure. On the other hand, you will find people present the same scenario, except, for them, the Funko Pop started to warp. If both cases are true, then that would suggest that different Pops could have different plastic mixtures—some being more resilient to the heat, and others not so much.

Plastic mixtures do vary in action figures, so there is no reason to suggest that it can’t vary in Funko Pops. If so, then it may be difficult to determine at what temperature your Pop will start to warp. Basically, you’re taking a risk when putting that thing in your PC.

Can I Put a Funko Pop on Top of the GPU

Some of the places people seem to enjoy placing their Pops is on the PSU cover or GPU. Graphics Cards get pretty hot, especially under stress in cases like heavy video editing or gaming. Yout GPU may be between 65 to 85°C (149 to 185°F) on average. At those temperatures, it may not be a good idea to set your Funko Pop on the card. Will, your Pop melt? No, probably not, but it’s possible the plastic may become soft and warp if high temperatures are sustained. It also may have an effect on the paint.

On top of getting hotter, the GPU also does not need more weight on it. Graphics Cards can be pretty hefty as it is. If you are bold enough to place the Funko Pop(s) on your GPU, perhaps consider buying a GPU support bracket to prevent the card from sagging.

If you have the Funko Pop sitting on the GPU, if it falls off it could hit a fan or some other component, so make sure you choose a Pop that stands well on its own and is not going to tip one way or another.

When it comes to the PSU, temperatures are a little harder to determine, but they still may be in the higher range and likely are not ideal for your Funk Pop. If the case is built in a manner so that the Funko Pop can sit on the PSU cover and not directly on the PSU, you may be fine.

Do a Test in Your Oven

A stress test that some have recommended is putting your Funko Pop in the oven. If you are concerned about the Funko Pop melting inside your PC, you may want to try putting the Pop in the oven at the highest temperature your PC reaches inside. You can leave it in there for a prolonged amount of time to prove to yourself that it will not melt.

Final Thoughts and My Opinion

In conclusion, yes, many people do put Funko Pops in their PCs, and they can make for cool decorations. That being said, there are some people who have had Pops become soft and sticky at high temperatures, comparable to the temperatures your PC may reach inside. Others express concern over the Pops interfering with air circulation within the PC. Ultimately, the decision is up to you. If you feel that your PC has good enough air circulation and the temperature in the case will not affect the Funko Pop, then you may be fine. Still, I would find a Pop that stands well on its own and is not prone to falling over. Good luck!
