Answer: For certain figures you may be able to use display stands. Holes in the feet and/or backs of the figures can be connected to corresponding pegs on the display stands. For figures without peg holes, a display holder base may work.
Figures with small feet or a disproportionate amount of weight on one side of the toy tend to be tough to display, because they have difficulty keeping their balance. It can be hard enough to get these figures to stand up straight, let alone display them in an action pose.
As a Transformers collector, I can recall Sideways from the Revenge of the Fallen line being almost impossible to stand. Most of the time, I’d have to lean the figure forward because the excess weight on the back would cause it to fall over. This wasn’t helped by the fact that the feet on this figure were absurdly small.
What Can You Use to Keep Your Figures from Falling?
There are a number of different ways to handle this. One of the cruder ways to stop your action figures from falling over is to simply lean the problem figures against the wall or against larger, sturdier figures. This isn’t ideal and will end up looking sloppy. Your figure will also probably just end up falling over anyways.
If your figure has peg holes in its feet or back, you might be able to find a display stand to peg them into. Display stands are a great way to keep your figures from falling over. Just make sure of a few things when looking for display stands:
- Check to see that your figure has a peg hole for the stand
- Make sure the peg hole is not to big/small for the corresponding peg
- Make sure the display stand can support a figure of that size
Display stands are often made with certain types of figures in mind so there could be some that are compatible with your figures. That being said, there are also many that will be incompatible, so be diligent about researching before you make a purchase. Here are some options you may want to consider.

What If I Can’t Find a Display Stand Made for My Action Figures
You can find display stands for a number of different types of figures: Marvel Legends, Star Wars Black Series, Vintage Star Wars figures, Playmates Star Trek, NECA, etc. That being said, that doesn’t necessary mean that there are display stands made specifically for the figures you have in mind. Also, there is a possibility that the display stand you pick doesn’t work for your figure despite the fact that it is supposed to be compatible.
In this case, you could try out display holders/support stands. If your figure has a peg hole in its back that is the correct size, you can peg them into that hole; however, even if your figure does not have a hole in its back, these still may work. You can use the adjustable clamp to hold your figure by the waist area and keep it in place.

Conclusion
When displaying your figures, it can sometimes be difficult to get certain ones to stand no matter how hard you try to balance them. In these cases, you might want to consider getting some kind of stand to support those figures. Some figures have peg holes in their backs and/or feet and you may be able to plug a peg from a display stand into those holes for some added support. For cases where the figure has no peg holes, or you can’t find a stand with a peg that is the correct size; you should consider getting a display stand holder. The clamp on the holder can be used to support the figure at the waist. Unfortunately, there may be cases where you can’t find a stand that works for your figures, but for most modern and/or popular action figures, your will likely find something that works.
Hello:
I like the advice for action figures with peg holes but I have horror figures that do not have peg holes. These figures vary in size but are usually 8″-12″ tall. What about museum putty or wax? Have you used some, and if so, what would you recommend? Will the wax or putty when applied to the feet of the figure, be difficult to remove, if I want to re-position a figure after some time? Thanks, Joe M
