hThere comes a point when it’s time to say goodbye to certain hobbies. Maybe you were one of the millions of people who has fallen in love with Funko Pops over the past few years, and now you have dozens of them stacked against your bedroom wall, collecting dust. You’re asking yourself why you even still have them. If you’ve lost interest, then maybe it’s time to sell them, and possibly make a profit on them.

You’ve probably sold a Pop or two over the last few years, but selling an entire collection can be intimidating. Well, it really shouldn’t be. I’m going to give you the basics on how to sell a Funko Pop collection. Should you sell your collection all at once or in chunks? What online marketplace(s) should you use? What shipping materials will you need? I’ll try to cover all of this.

Will You Sell Your Funko Pop Collection Yourself or Sell It to a Reseller?

Okay, so this is the big question you need to ask yourself, and it’s definitely worth putting some thought into; because either option has its pros/cons.

If you’re selling the collection yourself, its highly likely that you will be doing this through an online marketplace like eBay. Handling it yourself through eBay is going to be more time consuming and you will probably need to pay for shipping supplies and packaging materials. Not to mention, you will pay a 10% fee to eBay for everything that you sell as well as a 3% fee to Paypal. So, even though you will make more selling the collection yourself than going through a reseller, you may not make as much as you think you will.

Your next option is to sell your collection to a reseller. They will buy your collection off of you and then sell it themselves. If you go with this option, it is certainly going to save you quite a bit of time; however, the general consensus is that you will make less money in the long run. Its often the case that resellers only offer about half of what your collection if worth.

Different resellers have different sets of guidelines for using their services, you’ll want to familiarize yourself with them and decide which one is right for you if you choose to go this route. Some resellers you might be interested in checking out are 7 Bucks a Pop and The Film Cell. You can also see if there are any local businesses in your area that you can contact about your collection. A local comic book shop might be interested.

Should You Sell the Whole Collection at Once?

If you really want to get these things out of your hair, you may be tempted to get it over and done with and sell all of them at once to a reseller. This is definitely an option; however, I would advise you to think very carefully about this beforehand as you could end up missing out on money you would otherwise make if you had chosen to sell the collection in chunks.

If you do want to sell the entire collection at once, and the extra money is not that important to you, then your best option is to look for a toys and collectibles reseller like the two I mentioned earlier (there could also be some local resellers or comic book shops in your area that will take them). They will pay you for your whole collection and take it off your hands. Again, if you decide to go this route, you could miss out on a significant potential profit, but it will save you a lot of time and energy.

Selling Your Collection in Chunks

The way you sell your Funko Pop collection in chunks (or lots) is pretty simple. Take a group of Funko Pops—four, eight, ten, etc.–and sell them all together. Before you do this, I’d get the value of each of the Funko Pops you’ll be selling in that group and add up the amount. Once you have the total, you have a few options:

  1. Price them at the exact amount that they are worth.
  2. Price them less than the total worth
    • Pricing them lower than the amount they are worth is the best way to sell them quickly
  3. Price them more than the total worth
    • If you do this, they will take longer to sell, but you make more money

Selling Your Collection One Funko at a Time

Selling each Pop individually is also an option, and, if you have a lot of highly valuable Pops, I might even recommend it, but chances are, there are a good number of your Pops that are common and not very valuable. Selling many of these individually may not be worth the time you will spend listing them and packaging them for shipment as well as the potential cost for shipping supplies. In cases of common Funko Pops with low market value, I highly recommend selling in bulk.

Mystery Box Method

Probably one of the easiest and most fun ways to go about selling your Funko Pops is what some have called the Mystery Box Method. You post a listing to eBay and anyone who makes a purchase will be sent a random Funko Pop.

If you’re going to do this, you want to make sure that all the Funko Pops you’re shipping out for a particular listing are of similar value. You can make multiple listings like this, with each listing having Funko Pops of different values.

You can also ship multiple Funko Pops in one Mystery Box. So, for example, you may want to do mystery boxes of six or more randomly selected Pops at a time.

Where to Sell Your Funko Pops

When it comes to where you will sell your Funko Pops, you have a number of different options and ultimately it will come down to personal preference and where you think you can make the biggest profit for the amount of effort you are willing to put in.

You may want to sell your Funko Pops in person to someone you know. This way, you bypass all the hassles of creating listings on an online marketplace, packaging the item for shipment, and so on. You also may have the opportunity to make a lot more money since you’re bypassing the cost of shipping and the fees that online marketplaces like eBay will charge you.

The problem is, it’s unlikely that you know enough people who want to buy your Funko Pops off of you. There is a chance that you may be able to connect with someone locally over social media platforms like Facebook or Instagram, but you will probably need to resort to selling them on an online marketplace.

If you’re going to sell them yourself online, the big online marketplaces are likely where you will go first:

  • eBay
  • Amazon
  • Facebook Marketplace

As I mentioned a couple times already, you could also choose to go with a reseller like 7 Bucks a Pop or The Film Cell. There may also be a local business that will buy them off of you.

How Much Should You Sell Them For?

How much you sell your Funko Pops for depends on which Funko Pops you are selling. The best way to figure out how much people might be willing to pay you for your Pops is by checking the Sold Listings on eBay. This will tell you what people have recently paid for that Funko. There are likely to be multiple sold listings at various prices—some higher, some lower. You may want to price your item(s) somewhere in between.

When selling multiple Funko Pops at once, you will need to add the value of each Funko Pop in the lot to determine the price you will charge. Please keep in mind that when people buy in bulk, they do this with the intention of paying less than they would if they were to purchase each item individually.

If you’re selling your Funko Pops to a reseller (whether it be local or online) then they will probably request information about how many/which Funko Pops you’re offering to sell them, and they will offer you a certain amount for them—the amount they offer will almost certainly be less than the current market value.

What Shipping/Packaging Materials will you Need?

When selling anything online on sites like eBay, you need to think about packaging/shipping materials. Funko Pops are no different.

First off, you’ll need a box. You’ll want to go with something slightly bigger than the Pop(s) you are shipping. Then you will need some kind of material for cushioning—you can’t just throw your Funko Pops in a cardboard box and send it out because they could get damaged during transit. Your buyer really won’t appreciate this! Some packaging materials you may want to consider: packing peanuts, bubble wrap, packing paper, plastic bags, etc. You’ll, of course, need packaging tape and a box as well.

If you’re shipping multiple Funko Pops at once, you should consider bundling them together with shrink wrap.

Bottomline, if you are planning on selling a large number of Funko Pops online, you will likely need shipping supplies. Here is a list of some things you might need:

A Tape Dispenser Tape King TX100 Packing Tape Dispenser Gun (Amazon)
Packaging Tape Scotch Heavy Duty Shipping Packaging Tape  (Amazon)
Packing Material

Packing Peanuts White (Amazon)

Packing Paper Sheets (Amazon)

Duck Brand Bubble Wrap Roll (Amazon)

Shrink Wrap Stretch Film/Wrap (Amazon)

What Your Buyers Should Know

The most important thing you need to inform your potential buyers about is the condition of the Funko Pops and their packaging. Funko Pop collectors are very particular about this. Dents, scratches, scuff marks, etc.—you need to make your customers aware of these things. This is the kind of stuff you put in the description of the eBay listing.

Another very important detail that buyers need to know is whether or not the Pop has been taken out of its packaging. Funko Pops are packaged so that they can be easily taken out of the box and later put back into their boxes. This means that Pops can easily be removed from their packaging without damaging the packaging. This is not the case for other collectables like action figures. That being said, if your Funko Pops have been opened, you do need to let your potential buyers know, even if you think its not obvious.

Conclusion

There are multiple different ways to go about selling your Funko Pop collection and each has its own pros and cons. If you want to get the collection off your hands fast, then selling them to a reseller is probably the best option for you. You’ll make less money on them, but it will be far less work for you and you’ll get back that space the Funko Pops are occupying much quicker. If money is the most important thing to you, and the time and effort you’ll need to put in aren’t an issue for you, then you probably want to go the eBay route. Really though, the best way for you to make the most money on your Funko Pop collection while saving the most amount of time would be to sell them yourself to someone in person, but that may not be an option for you. Anyways, hope this helped you figure out what to do with that Funko Pop collection you’ve lost interested in.
